Life has just been one heck of a whirlwind lately and writing has definitely been on the back burner. I tried and tried to think of something ~meaningful~ to write about and nothing was coming to mind. I kept on thinking and the last few months have been crazy busy so I figured it wouldn't hurt to give you guys an update of what's been happening, whats on my mind, and what I've been loving.
Once finals were done kicking my butt, I officially started break on the 15th. I drove home and immediately packed up my things and headed to Florida to see Christina and her family. I had never been to Florida and I didn't think about the fact that it was such a hotspot for both American and international families over the holidays and let me tell ya the airport was more than overwhelming. I gotta give it to all the parents who take on traveling with little ones during that time of year. Florida was so much fun! Sadly, it rained a good majority of the time I was there, but it was so great to see Christina and her family and to get to catch up with them.
Christmas was a bit different this year, we celebrated on Christmas Eve. Christmas is never too much, just hanging out and spending time with each other. Nick was able to fly back from D.C so the whole gang got to be together, which truly was the best gift! A surprisingly nice Christmas Day was also spent with family!
Kansas didn't start second semester until January 22, so I got to spend most of January still at home. I rang in the new year catching up with old friends, which was much needed. There's something about my fellow Nebraskans that I just love and can't get enough of. The rest of my time home consisted of work, a haircut, a breakfast date here and there, and much needed time with my family. Nebraska, I love you always.
An over hyped snowstorm brought me and many others back to Lawrence a day earlier than planned. And dang was I thankful to be back, it amazes me how much a little dorm room and a town I just met last fall feels like a second home to me. Not even half way into the semester and we've had two snowdays along with a few half day cancellations and I am sure over this whole polar vortex thing. I am taking my first teaching class this semester and am loving it! There is so much more to it than I thought, but I am excited nonetheless. I finally went to my first basketball game!! My dad, along with many others, have been urging and urging me to go. It definitely was worth it and met the hype everyone gave it. I am really, really trying to be more of a sports fan because if I'm being really 100% completly honest with you guys, I don't really care about sports a whole lot. (but still rock chalk always!!)
Some things I've been loving lately:
-I am a huge music listener and the jams I've been bumping can be listened to here!
-I don't have a lot of downtime for reading, but I have been slowly making my way through Becoming by Michelle Obama. I absolutely LOVE it! She talks about how she was brought up, her college days, early days with Barack, through her time in the White House, and much more. She is someone I have a lot of respect for and who I admire so much, so I have absolutely loved reading this. If any of you have read it or are reading it I would love to chat about it and hear what you think!
-Nothing is worse for my skin than winter and this winter has been no different. I got a cut on my lip over break and the only thing to cure it was this Burt's Bees chapstick with kokum butter. It works wonders and I have already bought two more for my bag and my car since discovering it! I have always struggled to find a good face moisturizer because my skin is so dang sensitive. I also hate changing my skin routine because once I find something that works I am paranoid that changing it up will make me break out, but the Clinique moisturizer I was using just wasn't cutting it for the dry air this winter. So, I (well, Laura, s/o to you mom, thank you for saving my skin) found the Ultra Repair Cream by First Aid Beauty. It is amazing and I have been using it religiously every night since I got it.
-Sometimes to fall asleep for bed I'll throw on an episode of something and recently I have been loving Atypical (also s/o to Laura again for introducing me to this one!!). I also just recently finished You on Netflix. I would 10/10 recommend this if you're looking for something a little spooky and a little romantic in a weird way? Don't be turned away by the first episode!
I would love to hear what you guys have been up to lately or what you've been loving!
